The Video Game Industry is Collapsing

The more I do these videos and the more research I do into the games industry, the more I believe that it is a house of cards filled with incompetence and misdirection, but most of all avarice—greed is a critical factor in gaming. On February 20th, 2026, Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming and the man who has been the face of Xbox for over a decade, announced his retirement. Effective? Well, immediately. And in the same announcement, Sarah Bond, Xbox president and Spencer's protégé, the woman who had been primed for eight years to take over the top job, resigned. And who is that replacement? Asha Sharma. A 36-year-old executive whose career includes Instacart, Meta, a home services startup, and Microsoft's AI division. No game development experience. No publishing experience. No studio management experience. No gaming industry experience of any kind, at any point, in her entire career. Now all of that could be fine. And maybe Sharma is going to be great for the job. But there are too many questions. There are too many variables. And gamers are being left in the dark. Intentionally. Gamers are being intentionally left in the dark at a time when the overall gaming industry is going through a slippery slope of market consolidation. My friends, the video game industry, as we know it, is collapsing. Things are changing. We don’t have journalists asking the right questions? We don’t have creators asking the right questions?
